Student receives national software award

A Mississippi State University art student recently received honors in a national digital imagery competition.

Amy Hodges of Starkville, a senior graphic design major, placed second in the National Adobe Dream Team Contest, sponsored by Adobe Systems Inc., a computer software company. She received Adobe software valued at $700.

Hodges' entry, "Briscoe," began as a digital photograph of the shadows of branches against the brick exterior of Briscoe Hall, one of the art department's buildings. She then manipulated the photograph in Adobe Photoshop to create the second-place abstract image.

"Amy created the piece in the first digital imaging class taught in the department of art," explained Marita Gootee, associate professor of art. "The class combines photography and the electronic medium to form works of fine art. Amy consistently took creative and technical risks which resulted in this award-winning image."
