University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder October 23, 2006

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Presenting its first concert of the 2006-07 season, the Starkville/Mississippi State University Symphony Chorus will present a program of sacred music at the First United Methodist Church.

Titled "Sacred Music: A Buffet of Choral Styles," the free Nov. 3 concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the main sanctuary building at the intersection of Meigs and Lampkin streets. The Starkville Rotary Club is sponsor.

FUMC's music director Ted Beverly leads the 40-voice chorus. MSU music instructor Wendy Payton is accompanist.

Program selections include Gabriel Fauré's "Cantique de Jean Racine," Randall Stroppe's "Inscription of Hope," Hassler's "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded," Joseph Martin's "Goliath," Mary Lynn Lightfoot's "Gaudeamus!" and David Child's "The Moon is Distant from the Sea."

"These selections present both varied sources of choral texts and a wide range of vocal styles," Beverly said.

In existence for more than 30 years, the community-campus chorus involves volunteers from throughout the Golden Triangle.
