STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two doctoral students at Mississippi State are being honored by the Southern Branch/American Society of Agronomy for visual presentations describing their research programs.

Agronomy majors Shadendu Kumar Singh and Satya Sai Kumar Matcha, both natives of India now residing in Starkville, took first and second place, respectively, among six competing during the recent annual meeting of professionals and university students in Mobile, Ala.

Singh's research involves a screening process for monitoring a crop's development in the face of climate changes resulting from global warming.

Kumar's investigation focuses on the effects of nitrogen deficiency on growth and other biological factors of the castor bean plant, a potential bio-diesel source now being investigated as an alternative Mississippi crop.

Research professor K. Raja Reddy is supervising the work of both students.
