STARKVILLE, Miss.--Named the preferred candidate for Mississippi State's development and alumni vice president vacancy earlier this month, university alumnus John Rush will officially assume the position.

Formal approval of the appointment is pending by the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.

"Over the last few weeks, John has met with a wide variety of campus and alumni constituencies, and all have given him extremely positive feedback," said President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong. "We believe his knowledge of Mississippi State, his experience and his energy are a winning combination for this position."

Rush, who has played a major role in the university's $400 million "State of the Future" fundraising effort, was selected by Foglesong following a national search headed by Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs. Kibler led a committee of faculty, staff, alumni, and students who identified candidates forwarded for consideration.

A Leakesville native and 1994 political science graduate, Rush has held a variety of successively responsible fundraising positions at MSU since 1997. His most recent position has been director of major gifts for the MSU Foundation.
