STARKVILLE, Miss.--Professional accreditation of the John C. Longest Student Health Center at Mississippi State is being extended for another three-year period.

A report last week to university officials from the Illinois-based Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care announced continuation of the designation. A key part of the recertification process was a mandatory survey of the South Hardy Road facility that was completed in September.

"The Longest Student Health Center continues to be recognized by the national accrediting body as a fully compliant and outstanding operation," said Bill Kibler, vice president of MSU's Division of Student Affairs. "We congratulate Dr. Collins, Mr. Cadenhead and the other hard-working members of the staff for maintaining a tradition of first-class service to the university community."

Dr. Robert Collins is center director, while Robert Cadenhead is the administrator.

Named in memory of its longtime former director, the center is a comprehensive outpatient health-care facility whose 50-member staff includes five physicians and three family nurse practitioners.

The accrediting association is a non-profit agency established in 1979 to assist ambulatory health-care organizations improve the quality of medical services they provide.
