STARKVILLE, Miss.--Graduate students William N. "Nick" White of West (l) and Justin L. McElroy of Roxie are the 2007-08 Howell Gwin Scholars in English at Mississippi State University. White, who is receiving a $1,000 award, is a May summa cum laude graduate of Delta State University, while McElroy, a May MSU graduate, is receiving $500. Their scholarships were established in 1982 as a memorial to the 25-year MSU English department faculty member and student mentor. The scholars are joined by Gwin's widow, Elizabeth, a Starkville resident.
