STARKVILLE, Miss.--A reading and book signing by award-winning fiction writer Christopher Coake will be held Feb. 28 at Mississippi State.
Sponsored by the university's English department, the free public program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor suite of the Swalm Chemical Engineering Building.
An assistant professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno, Coake has won wide praise--and the 2006 PEN/Robert Bingham Fellowship--for a short-story collection titled "We're in Trouble" (Harcourt, 2005). He also has been named among the "best young American novelists" by Granta, the prominent international literary magazine.
In addition to fiction, Coake is a specialist in contemporary literature and film. He holds a master of fine arts degree from Ohio State University, as well as a bachelor's from Ball State University and a second master's from Miami University of Ohio.
His short stories have appeared in some leading journals and anthologies, including The Southern Review and Best American Mystery Stories 2004.
