A team member on one of Mississippi State's longest continuing research projects is the first full-time undergraduate coordinator for the university's College of Engineering.
Robert A. Green moves to his new position from the Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory, where he was a research engineer.
As undergraduate coordinator, he will be responsible for student advising, administration of the undergraduate engineering scholarship program and recruiting students for the bachelor's degree programs, among other duties. An MSU alumnus, he also will serve as the college's liaison with community colleges.
"Robert Green has worked with undergraduate students for several years and has deep concern for their welfare," said engineering Dean A. Wayne Bennett. "We are very pleased that he has accepted this new challenge."
Bill Smyer, associate engineering dean for undergraduate affairs, said Green brings valuable leadership skills and professional contacts to the position.
"His service in professional organizations has provided a background that will benefit our students as they prepare to enter the workforce or graduate school," Smyer said.
Green has held positions in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Mississippi Engineering Society and other professional organizations. He is a member the U.S. Naval Reserve, currently serving at the rank of lieutenant.
He holds two degrees from MSU, including a bachelor's in chemical engineering and a master's in mechanical engineering.
Green also has done post-graduate work in engineering mechanics at the university and is currently enrolled in the Naval War College's Non-Resident Correspondent Program.
