STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's vice president for research and economic development will be inducted next month as a Fellow Member of the American Society for Engineering Education.
Kirk Schulz came to the university in 2001 as director of the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. Four years later, he was named dean of the Bagley College of Engineering and was appointed to his current position in 2007.
Recognized for his many contributions to the organization and engineering profession, the Virginia native will receive the honor late next month at ASEE's annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pa.
One of the organization's committees evaluated Schulz's nomination, while another approved his selection for the award, explained ASEE president James L. Melsa. "The thorough review process enhances the high regard in which fellow membership in the society is held," he added.
Schulz, who holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also is a member of the ABET Inc.'s Engineering Accreditation Commission and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
ABET Inc. formerly was known as the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology.
