STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State business educator and administrator again is being honored by the National Council on Economic Education.
Paul W. Grimes will be in Biloxi Thursday [Oct. 9] to receive the organization's Top Center Director in the Country award for his leadership of the university's Economic Education Center. A faculty member since 1987, he also is head of the College of Business' department of finance and economics.
A public outreach effort of the department, the Economic Education Center provides professional development and specialized training for teachers of kindergarten through 12th grade. It is part of a national network involving more than 200 university-based programs.
Being presented during the organization's convention at the Beau Rivage Resort, the NCEE award is the latest in a string of top recognitions for Grimes and the center.
In 2005, the Oklahoma State University doctoral graduate was selected for NCEE's Henry H. Villard Award for contributions to economic education research. The following year, the center received notice of a five-year accreditation, the maximum period awarded by the New York City-based organization.
Since being established in 2003, the MSU center has, among other accomplishments:
--Recorded more than 2,500 participants in its varied programs;
--Seen its participating faculty members attract more than $780,000 in external research and service grants and contracts; and
--Recently been awarded a two-year contract to evaluate the educational programs and materials produced by the Federal Reserve banks of Atlanta and St. Louis.
Faculty members Rebecca Campbell, Meghan Millea and Kathleen Thomas serve as the center's associate directors.
