University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder September 03, 2009

STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State University Police Department continues an investigation begun Wednesday [Sept. 2] resulting from a weekend party at a campus fraternity house.

Police officers executed a search warrant at the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, located on Sheely Circle, based on allegations of multiple alcohol violations and a possible sexual assault. They were assisted by the Starkville Police Department and Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators continue to collect evidence and witness statements, said Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs.

"We take these allegations very seriously, and the university will take appropriate actions based on the results of the investigation," Kibler added.

Kibler said the fraternity faces the possibility of university sanctions, as well as criminal charges.

"We are aggressively pursuing this investigation and will follow it to its conclusion," he said.
