A display of shirts painted by women survivors of rape, incest and assault will be featured Oct. 1-3 at Mississippi State University.
The Clothesline Project will be exhibited on the Drill Field 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. In case of rain, the display will move to the Colvard Union second floor lounge.
The public presentation is sponsored by the campus chapter of the National Organization for Women.
A national grassroots movement begun in 1990 by the Cape Cod (Mass.) Women's Agenda, the Clothesline Project "is designed to call attention to the epidemic of violence experienced by American women," said graduate student Lori A. Corteville of Troy, Mich., chapter co-president.
"There now are more than 350 projects around the world memorializing women who have survived violence and those who have not," she said. "They each provide the opportunity for women to bear witness to their personal experience of violence and celebrate their transformation from victim to survivor."
