STARKVILLE, Miss.--A classic tale of Southern justice and childhood innocence lost comes to life again Wednesday [Oct. 21] when Mississippi State's 2009-10 Lyceum Series presents "To Kill a Mockingbird."
The dramatic performance by the Montana Repertory Theatre cast begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Lee Hall.
Available at the door, general admission tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for university employees and senior citizens (65 and over by request); and $8 for children 3-12. MSU students are admitted free with proper identification.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Alabama author Harper Lee, "Mockingbird" burst upon the American literary landscape in 1960 and continues to touch each new generation with its power and inspiration. In 1999, it was voted the "Best Novel of the 20th century" by readers of the Library Journal.
Now celebrating the 50th anniversary of its publication, Lee's novel was brought to the screen in 1962 with an Academy Award-winning adaptation by Horton Foote. It later was adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel.
Established as the theatre-in-residence at the University of Montana's School of Fine Arts, the Montana Repertory Theatre has been bringing the American classics to locales throughout the U.S. since 1968.
Past MRT seasons have included works by Tennessee Williams, Wendy Wasserstein, Neil Simon, and Arthur Miller, among others.
