STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State University police are seeking more information about a weekend sexual assault reported in the early hours of Saturday morning [June 5].

An MSU student reported that Saturday morning between 4-4:30 a.m., she was approached at the intersection of Lee and Coliseum Boulevards as she walked back to her apartments. Threatened with a weapon, she was assaulted near McKee Hall before her assailant fled.

While details are still being investigated, an initial description of the suspect indicates he was a black male between 5' 7" and 6'0. A more detailed description will be released as it is available.

"We ask anyone with more information about the incident to contact the MSU police department," said Dean of Students Thomas Bourgeois. MSU police continue to investigate the incident, he added.

"We remind students to be conscious of their surroundings, never to walk alone at night if possible, and to report suspicious circumstances to the MSU Police," Bourgeois said.

The MSU Police Department provides a 24-hour, 7-day escort service for students and visitors to and from locations on campus.

To report any information about the incident, contact MSU police at 662-325-2121.
