STARKVILLE, Miss.--The health education and wellness department at Mississippi State University is partnering with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to promote breast cancer awareness with a mobile, interactive information center.
The bright pink "Komen on the Go" RV, in front of the Colvard Student Union Sept. 15 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., will display educational information on breast health, supporting loved ones with breast cancer, and ways to get involved in the cure. The RV uses flat-screen televisions and computer kiosks to broaden the public's awareness.
"We believe this event will be a unique and effective way to educate our students and community on breast cancer awareness," said MSU health education and wellness director Joyce Yates. "More than 40,000 women die annually from this disease, but through early detection and participation in events such as Komen on the Go, we can increase awareness and lower this number."
Founded in 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest breast cancer awareness organization, funding innovative research and community-based health care programs in its quest to find a cure for the disease.
