MEDIA ADVISORY: 'Maroon Edition' Habitat dedication

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Allison Matthews November 11, 2011

Mississippi State and Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity volunteers and officials will dedicate the newly complete Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity house at 4 p.m. Monday [Nov. 14].

A service learning component of the university's Maroon Edition First-Year Reading Experience, this year's project benefits Kimberly Riley, a local working mother, and her three children.

The new residence is at 70 Murdock Lane, which is off Horseshoe Circle. A tour will be given at the conclusion of the program. [The address is south of State High 12 West, just outside the city limits.]

Program speakers include MSU President Mark E. Keenum, Marcus Mallory, president of sponsoring Cadence Bank, and Allan Tucker, president of Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Keenum also will present the Riley family with a homeowner Bible and an MSU quilt made by Starkville resident Dot Livingston.

MSU student volunteers and members of the Starkville community have worked on the house each Friday and Saturday of the fall semester. The campus Maroon Volunteer Center coordinated the student volunteer efforts.
