STARKVILLE, Miss.--With his Feb. 24 presentation, Southern environmental history pioneer Mart A. Stewart continues the new CHASES Lecture Series at Mississippi State.
To begin at 3 p.m. in 124 McCool Hall, the free event is sponsored by the university's Center for the History of Agriculture, Science and the Environment of the South.
"Plantations, Environmental History, and the American South" will be the title of remarks by the history professor at the University of Western Washington.
While on campus, he also will be meeting with student and community groups.
Stewart is a Willamette University graduate who holds a master's degree from Portland State University, both in Oregon. A doctoral graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., he has focused his teaching and research on 19th century U.S. history, environmental history and the history of science.
