Distinguished artist, Mathiston native to visit MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Acclaimed Mississippi artist William R. "Bill" Dunlap will speak March 28 at Mississippi State.

Also an arts commentator and educator, the Webster Countian will share his artistic journey in "Confessions of an Itinerant Painter."

Sponsored by the university's art department, the 11 a.m. presentation in Giles Hall Auditorium is free to all.

During a career spanning more than three decades, he has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Rockefeller and Warhol foundations, Virginia Commission for the Arts, and Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. He also has been honored with the Mississippi Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts.

Dunlap's paintings, sculptures and constructions are found in collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Lauren Rogers Museum, Mobil Corp., and U.S. embassies throughout the world, among others.

He received a master of fine arts degree from the University of Mississippi, and has taught at Appalachian State University and Memphis State University (now University of Memphis).
