STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's Maroon Volunteer Center and Volunteer Starkville are co-sponsoring a 9/11 tribute at the Starkville Fire Station One on University Drive.

To begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Ceremony will honor local first responders and military servicepersons, as well as heroes and victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

Open to all, the program also will provide light refreshments for participants.

Army Maj. Andrew Rendon, founder of MSU's Sonny Montgomery Center for American's Veterans, will give the welcome address. Rendon, who currently serves MSU as assistant dean of students, recently returned from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman will read a 9/11 proclamation as part of the tribute ceremony.
