STARKVILLE, Miss.--Theatre MSU and the communication department at Mississippi State will present their annual children's show Sunday [Nov. 18.] on the McComas Hall main stage.
Appropriate for all ages, the 2 p.m. production of "The Amazing Adventures of the Marvelous Monkey King" is directed by veteran faculty member Jo Durst.
General admission tickets are $10.
The play also will celebrate 22 years of productions by the department and its theater program designed specifically for children.
An energetic mix of opera and hip-hop styles, the creation of California playwright Elizabeth Wong tells the story of a mischievous Chinese superhero known as the Monkey King.
Between finding and losing a home and battling a one-horned ogre, he somersaults into the future to encounter hip-hop music. After much dancing, many battles and heroics, he learns valuable lessons about leadership, responsibility and forgiveness.
