Senior William A. Walsh of Jackson is being recognized by Mississippi State with the 2012-13 Best John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development Essay Award. The Stennis Institute and its annual essay competition are among several university memorials to the late alumnus and longtime U.S. senator from DeKalb. Walsh, a political science major, is the son of Tucker Walsh and Kathryn Walsh and a St. Joseph Catholic School graduate. During the fall semester, he worked in Washington, D.C., with Terpstra & Associates, an independent government and public affairs firm.
