Multiple murderers to get exposure at program next week

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Sammy McDavid April 01, 1999

A criminologist who has researched the minds and motives of serial killers will speak Tuesday [April 6] at Mississippi State University.

"Serial Murder Exposed" is the title of a slide-illustrated presentation by Jack Levin, a professor of sociology and criminology at Northeastern University in Boston.

The public program, which begins at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall auditorium, is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board's Speakers Forum.

In addition to profiling the personalities of various multiple murderers, Levin examines the reasons behind their vicious acts. He also will discuss the latest law enforcement methods used to track them down.

Levin is co-author of "Overkill: Mass Murder and Serial Killing Exposed" (Plenum Publishing), a sequel to a pioneering work he and Northeastern criminal justice researcher James Fox completed more than a decade ago.

Since then, they have appeared regularly on national news programs, as well the talk shows of Oprah Winfrey, Geraldo Rivera, Larry King, and others.

For additional information on the program, telephone Paula Raffo or Brittany Collins at (601) 325-2930.
