The leadership of an international engineering consortium gathers in Mississippi this week for its annual business meeting.

Board members of the International Engineering Consortium arrive at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point Thursday [April 22]. Attending will be executives with AT&T, IBM, Motorola and other leading technology firms.

Following a Saturday morning [the 24th] business meeting at Old Waverly, the group will visit Mississippi State during the afternoon to tour the National Science Foundation/Engineering Research Center and other university facilities.

Friday's schedule includes a tour of MCI WorldCom headquarters in Jackson.

In addition to industry, IEC membership includes Mississippi State and nearly 75 other universities and colleges in the United States and overseas. Also among its university ranks are Columbia, Georgia Tech and Texas A&M.

The consortium was founded in 1944 by a group of universities and engineering societies to keep academic and industry professionals current on changes in the electronics industry. Its focus has evolved to include telecommunications and other sectors of the information industry.

The organization is widely recognized for its sponsorship of forums, seminars and other educational activities.
