Professor on national quality-promotion board

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Bob Ratliff May 12, 1999

A Mississippi State University engineering professor is a new member of the 1999 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners.

Stanley F. Bullington has been selected to serve on the 300-member body, which includes American business leaders, health care professionals and educators. The board evaluates applications for the national honor established by Congress in 1987.

In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, Bullington is the industrial engineering department's graduate coordinator, as well as co-director of MSU's Management Systems Engineering Laboratory.

He also serves as an examiner for the Mississippi Quality Award, which uses Baldrige Award criteria in its selection process.

The Baldrige Award is designed to enhance United States competitiveness by promoting quality awareness, recognizing quality and business achievements of companies and publicizing their successful performance. Up to two awards are presented annually in the categories of manufacturing, service and small business. Previous winners include Eastman Chemical Co., IBM and Xerox Business Services.

Bullington, a member of the MSU faculty since 1987, holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Auburn University and a master's from Purdue University.
