A former student body president at Mississippi State is the new fund-raising officer for the university's School of Architecture.

Michael E. Richardson will head development activities for the state's only professional architecture school, this year celebrating its 25th anniversary.

A former Vicksburg resident, Richardson is a 1998 graduate who led the MSU Student Association during his senior year. A former John C. Stennis Scholar in Political Science, he currently is pursuing a master's degree in public policy administration.

Since graduating, he has served as analyst for MSU's Office of Business Affairs, where he evaluated proposals for capital projects, infrastructure and budget requests. He also maintained an inventory of all university facilities.

"Mike has an in-depth knowledge of the university and a proven commitment to its future that will contribute to increased fund raising goals for the School of Architecture," said Frank Shannon, executive director of development.

Founded in 1973, the architecture school has grown to become a national leader in architectural education. It was among the first to incorporate laptop computers and virtual reality technology into a five-year undergraduate curriculum.

The school's Small Town Center was established in 1979 to focus on the preservation and enhancement of small town life in the state, region and nation. The Jackson Community Design Center provides research and technical assistance focused on the urban environment.
