University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder August 27, 1999

Seven top high school students are the first graduates of Java Academy, an advanced computer-skills workshop series held recently at Mississippi State University.

The training involved nine sessions for juniors and seniors on the use of the Java programming language to develop Internet web pages.

MSU's Engineering Research Center for Computational Field Simulation is one of six academy sites located throughout the United States. Organized by Syracuse University, the training program is provided via interactive teleconferences.

For more information about the 2000 JAVA Academy, contact Regina Halpin in MSU's College of Education. She can be reached by e-mail at rhalpin@ra.msstate.edu or telephone at (662) 325-7117.
