If you've got a minute, Sammy McDavid has a story to tell you about Mississippi State. He's written thousands of them and has told many more, a passion fueled by his love for the university and its people.

Widely known as one of MSU's unofficial historians, McDavid has spent much of his adult life on campus, specifically George Hall, first as a history and communication student and then as a member of the staff.

His time serving in the Army during the Vietnam War is the longest he's been away from campus since he enrolled as a freshman in 1966.

McDavid has devoted more than three decades to chronicling Mississippi State events as news editor for University Relations and, during that time, has witnessed countless changes at the university.

His affection for MSU is surpassed only by his love of family, who in turn have strong Bulldog ties. He met his wife Frances while working at the Reflector, and daughter Mary Beth is a graduate of the university.

McDavid explained his fascination with the past this way: "History tells you what’s going to happen tomorrow. It won’t be much different."
