Profile: Sarah Lynn Fisk
As the daughter of a Texas pastor, junior Sarah Fisk developed a deep connection to her Christian faith very early in life. Throughout her childhood and teen years, that faith played a central role in her life, and at 17 it was put to the test when her mother learned she had breast cancer for the second time.
Having watched her mother battle the disease for several years through numerous remissions and recurrences, Fisk seizes every opportunity, as a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, to work tirelessly to promote breast cancer awareness through the organization's philanthropy project.
Throughout the year, Fisk helps with the sorority's numerous fundraising ventures, with all proceeds going to support breast cancer awareness and education through the ZTA Foundation.
Fisk's experiences with her family facing the deadly disease have strengthened her faith and, after spending a semester in Germany, she returned home in fall 2009 and geared her education toward returning to the European nation after graduation to serve as a foreign missionary.
As a general liberal arts major, she is concentrating her studies in German, history and marketing with plans to serve as a full-time missionary.
"My faith and my family are the two most important things in my life," Fisk said. "Being able to work with ZTA to help promote breast cancer awareness has allowed me the opportunity to help others who may being going through what my family went through, while raising money for research to hopefully one day find a cure for this disease."
