Profile: Matilda Asuzu
Soft-spoken Matilda Asuzu's reserved nature keeps her from admitting she's an entertainer and performer, but she is.Whether in the "real" or digital world, the communication major (with an emphasis in broadcasting and minor in computer science) loves entertaining others and encouraging them to think.
The Baton Rouge, La., native whose parents are from Nigeria and Sierra Leone, has a span of interests large enough to make someone with ADD want to sit down and have a conversation with her. From neuroscience to computer science to communication to existential philosophy, Asuzu embraces a range of interests, from the tangible to the theoretical.
For instance, she enjoys participating in comedy improvisation through MSU's Lab Rats comedy troupe. Analytical and funny-often at the same time-Asuzu sees her comedy improv as a social experiment.
"It's nice to have an idea and have people relate to it," she said. "That's what happens when people laugh at a joke."
Along with entertaining in the physical world, the Shackouls Honors College student and summer intern with MSU's Northern Gulf Institute has experience producing podcasts, and anticipates studying multimedia in graduate school.
