'The Greatest Drumset Grooves in Rock and Roll History'

Robert J. Damm, professor of music at Mississippi State University, is presenting a free concert in historic Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium. Titled “The Greatest Drumset Grooves in Rock & Roll History,” the program will feature 18 songs with arguably the most classic, signature and iconic drum beats in the history of contemporary popular American music. Selections include songs by The Meters, The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Brown, Steve Miller, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Journey, Steely Dan, Phil Collins, Sting and Toto. Local guitarists Bill Cooke, Drew Dieckmann and Jerry Carnathan each will play a six-song set of music. Other performers include Jim Beaty (bass and vocals), Bobby Shannon (keyboard and vocals), Doug Thomas (saxophone) and Big Joe Shelton (harmonica).
