So You Want to Establish a Research Center/Institute?

November 5, 2019
2:30 pm to 4:00 pm

About this event

Research centers and institutes provide avenues for interdisciplinary research initiatives. Centers and institutes are primarily created when there is a strong case to be made for why the academic mission of the university cannot be achieved within existing structures. Some are established at the university, college and department levels. No matter the organizational structure, these entities are intended to serve the interests of faculty and/or in response to external funding opportunities. They are the key to developing innovative programs that keep the university in the forefront as a research and scholarly institution.

Sponsored by Mississippi State's Office of Research and Economic Development, this seminar will teach participants about differences between a center and institute, the process associated with establishing a center or institute, financial considerations, organizational structure, and much more.
