About this event
Mississippi State's Graduate School and Office of Research and Economic Development are sponsoring the university's fourth annual Three Minute Thesis competition, which challenges graduate students to present a compelling verbal presentation of their thesis or dissertation topic and its significance in just three minutes to a public audience. The competition will be held over a two-day period, Nov. 14-15, in the Fowlkes Auditorium of MSU’s Colvard Student Union. The preliminary rounds will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, with sessions from 9 a.m. until noon and 1-4 p.m. Participants may choose the time and may leave after completing their presentation. The final round of the competition will be held on Nov. 15 from 1-3:30 p.m., when the eight finalists will compete to be the university’s grand champion. Presentations will be judged by a panel of academic and non-academic professionals with a wide range of expertise. Winners will receive the following cash prizes—Grand Champion: $1,000; Grand Champion Runner-Up: $750; People's Choice Award: $500; each of the eight category winners: $250. Online registration is open and the deadline to apply is noon on Nov. 4.
