About this event
Join the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures Afternoon Anthropology lecture series where Dr. Tiffany Caesar, a Mellon Scholar at the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University, will discuss “A Black Woman’s Archivist: Mothering Pan-African Liberations and Womanist Geographies.”
Abstract:
Dr. Tiffany Caesar explores her process and journey as a scholar-activist preserving the narratives and experiences of transnational black women. She focuses on black women whose work have contributed to Pan-African Liberations and movements work have contributed to Pan-African Liberations and movements while leaving a trail of womanist geographies caused by their transnational political engagement in contemporary and past radical efforts. These leaders and change agents have participated in the Civil Rights Movement, Anti-Apartheid Movement, African-Centered Education Movement, and Reparation Movement to name a few. She focuses her engagement on three women - Phyllis Ntantala, Margaret Walker, and Queen Mother Moore - while also celebrating contemporary black women following the same tradition.
