About this event
Submitting your dissertation requires knowledge of how your author's rights relate to publication and how to safely include others' work and images in your scholarship. We'll cover both.
We each create and use copyrighted works every day, but few understand how to manage their rights or navigate the rights of others. If you’re a student who will be uploading your thesis or dissertation to MSU’s online institutional repository, there’s some key copyright concepts you’ll need to know.
This instructional copyright workshop will address your author’s rights, with implications for your publication contracts (future or prior). We’ll also work through navigating copyright law when you’re using third party materials. You’ll leave the workshop understanding the essential contours of fair use, the public domain, and the permissions process, applicable to your academic career and beyond.
You can take this workshop at any point in your academic career, but because the permissions timeline can be lengthy, you will find it handy to have this knowledge well before nearing the end of your thesis or dissertation.
Attendance only for those affiliated with MSU. Choose to attend in person or synchronous online.
