Formerly the University Honors Program at Mississippi State University, the Shackouls Honors College offers students an exceptional foundation upon which to build a successful future.
Mississippi State University’s Shackouls Honors College takes inspiration from the world-renowned Cambridge and Oxford Universities: as a residential college, students can expect high-quality accommodation, outstanding educational resources, cutting-edge facilities and dedicated support from a passionate faculty.
The Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University offers an unparalleled Cursus Honorum (“Path of Honors”). Seminars consist of no more than 15 students and lectures remain similarly small, with a maximum of 25 attendees. This promotes a tighter focus and an intimate atmosphere, facilitating more inclusive group discussions when appropriate.
Departments and Units
Mississippi State University’s Shackouls Honors College offers two of the university’s finest awards — the Presidential Scholarships and the Provost Scholarships. Only 10 - 12 students can enroll in each of these scholarships, which makes for a highly-competitive application process.
Recipients of a Presidential Scholarship have an exciting, valuable opportunity to study at Oxford University, one of England’s (and the world’s) most iconic educational institutions, over the summer months. This is a unique chance to learn in a timeless environment.
The Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University’s Undergraduate Research Program is a particular standout. We ensure students are paired with the most suitable member of faculty to maximize efficiency of learning. Our faculty is committed to helping students determine their research specialisms in the Undergraduate Research Program’s early stage, cultivating the most rewarding experience for every single student.
The Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University is home to the Distinguished Scholars Program. Mississippi State University’s highest-achieving undergraduates receiving a scholarship can enroll in this program, in which they will be given mentoring from one of the college’s experienced faculty-members. This is a powerful aid to encourage growth and instill a passion for their subject, helping to guide students to reach their full potential.
The Shackouls Honors College provides students with a choice of the Cursus Honorum or General Honors. The latter allows them to study courses from a diverse portfolio, based on their future objectives and personal interests.
