STARKVILLE, Miss.—Works by a self-taught artist from Amory are on display through Sept. 28 in Mississippi State’s Colvard Student Union Art Gallery.

Titled “Reclaimed: The Art of Grace,” the exhibition features Jimmy Criddle’s mixed-media silhouettes inspired by the folk art tradition.

Free to all, an opening reception in Criddle’s honor will be held from 5-6 p.m. Thursday [Sept. 8] in the second-floor gallery. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, as well as by appointment. The gallery will be closed during Saturday home football games. Guests are encouraged to sign the art gallery visitor’s log for the duration of Criddle’s exhibition.

A United Methodist pastor by day and mixed-media artist by night, Criddle has possessed an appreciation for the creative arts since age 11. In 2009, his passion for painting was stimulated when he attended the Gumtree Art Festival in Tupelo.

Each of Criddle’s silhouettes incorporate the theme of restoration through the combination of reclaimed wood, architectural salvage, and vintage ephemera with modern acrylic painting techniques. For more, visit www.jimmycriddle.com.
