Food security resources available for MSU students

Mississippi State University offers resources for students who may be experiencing food insecurity.

Nationally, approximately 30% of college students experience food insecurity during their enrollment, and MSU's campus-based data also indicates about 33% of our students experience food insecurity.

MSU wants to ensure all students are aware of the following resources available to them via MSU's Food Security Network.

Bully's Closet and Pantry: Located at 120 Morgan Ave. on the Starkville campus, BCP offers nutritious food, necessities like toiletry items, household goods, school supplies, and professional clothing for students in need.

Students can access BCP every weekday from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in-person shopping is available by appointment, which students can schedule at https://tinyurl.com/BCPShopping.

Curbside pick-up is available Wednesday and Friday. Students should place orders through Cowbell Connect - search "Bully's Closet Pantry Curbside Pick-Up." Students only need to present their valid MSU student ID card to access these services at no charge.

Block by Block: This program provides short-term assistance by allocating block meals to students' ID cards when needed.

Students also can donate up to three block meals per semester via an online form.

Forms for requesting and/or donating meals are available at https://www.students.msstate.edu/resources/msu-food-security-network.

Maroon Meals: This text notification system informs students about the availability of free food on campus, including the type of food available, location and length of time available. The steps to enroll are simple.

1. Download the myState app and log in with your MSU NetID and NetPassword.

2. Under the Student, Faculty and Staff section, go to Notification Sign-Up.

3. Turn the Maroon Meals slider to the "on" position and press Save. Make sure notifications are enabled for the myState app on your phone.

Students can directly access any of these programs. Referrals also can be made via email at blockbyblock@msstate.edu or by calling 662-325-3611.
