Miss Mississippi State wins the Miss Mississippi crown

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Miss MSU is now Miss Mississippi with Emmie Perkins taking the state crown Saturday [June 25] at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

Perkins now advances to represent the Magnolia State and the university during the Miss America competition later this year. A senior communication/public relations major at MSU, Perkins is a native of Hattiesburg.

During the competition, she promoted her social impact initiative, “Music is Medicine,” which emphasizes the importance of the arts and music. For the talent portion, she gave a vocal performance of “The Story.”

In addition to claiming the overall title, Perkins received the Overall Red Carpet Award and was the Preliminary Red Carpet Winner. She also earned the Vicksburg Daily News Award.

At MSU, Perkins is a member of the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College and Kappa Delta Sorority.
