MSU’s Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity celebrates 50 years

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. hosted its 50th Anniversary Weekend this spring.
More than 150 alumni attended the event in Starkville. The weekend started off with a family cookout followed by a reception for founding members. Additionally, the chapter awarded the Kappa Beta Alumni Award of Honor to MSU alumni Frederick V. Buie, Herbert V. Johnson, Derick H. Thomas, Reginald Kelly, Greg Davis, Major General Edward H. Evans Jr. and Major General Isaac Johnson Jr.
The weekend also included a Founders’ Breakfast, Alpha Nights in StarkVegas, a celebration of brotherhood designed to build connections and raise awareness of the fraternity’s impact and a memorial service to honor members who have entered the fraternity’s Omega Chapter, which recognizes and honors brothers who have passed away.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated’s aims are Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind.
The fraternity is part of the Divine 9 at MSU, which consists of all nine National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities.
MSU’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is planning to honor the NPHC community’s contributions to MSU with a new campus plaza. The space will serve as a place for students, alumni and friends to gather and celebrate the NPHC’s legacy.
