STARKVILLE, Miss.—Nelson Olivier, Mississippi State director of integrated security management, has earned the New Professional Award by the National Association of Campus Card Users.
Olivier has served as director for eight years and has been with the university for more than a decade. He leads a team of nine that oversees the university’s extensive campus electronic safety infrastructure, including thousands of campus security cameras, electronic access for more than 40,000 cardholders, drone detection system and more.
“We handle anything and everything related to electronic safety,” he said. “Our goal is to enhance the safety and security for everyone who steps onto campus through the integration of advanced electronic security and lockdown systems. Security features are integrated into every new project, which means the team is involved in all new construction to ensure safety features are built in from the start.”

In his short time with the NACCU, he attended his first conference in 2023 and has since served as a presenter, panelist, committee member and volunteer with the organization. He has made an immediate impact on the field of campus identification and transaction systems. Olivier received the honor during the organization’s recent annual conference in Hendersonville, Nevada. NACCU presents its New Professional Award to rising industry professionals who show outstanding innovation, leadership and dedication to their craft.
“It was a total shock to win this award. This award was a surprise, as I didn’t even know I was nominated,” Olivier said. “My team and I are used to working behind the scenes, so this recognition was not only appreciated, but also a great opportunity to raise awareness of the important work we do in keeping campus safe.”
NACCU stated in its award announcement, “Nelson Olivier has demonstrated exceptional initiative and commitment. He has immersed himself in the NACCU community, using every opportunity and resource to grow, contribute and connect with others in the field. His passion for card system technology, especially in areas such as card system integration and door access, has made him a go-to resource for colleagues.”
