STARKVILLE, Miss.—Registration is now open for Mississippi State’s 2026 Summer Scholars On Stage, a residential musical theater camp for middle and high school students interested in writing, performance and technical theater. The three-week camp, celebrating its 44th year, is set for June 7–27.
Summer Scholars On Stage offers 7th graders to high school seniors an immersive experience in which students collaborate to create and produce an original three-act musical from the ground up. Participants choose one of three specialized tracks—writing, performance or technical theater—and work alongside experienced educators and theater professionals throughout the program.
“Summer Scholars On Stage gives students an extraordinary opportunity to experience the full creative process, from concept to curtain call,” Camp Director Stephen Cunetto said. “Participants not only develop their artistic skills, but also build confidence, collaboration and leadership in a collegiate setting.”
During the first week, students in the writing track develop the original production’s script and lyrics, while those in the technical theater track design and begin construction of the set and production elements. The final two weeks focus on performance, during which students audition, rehearse and prepare for the fully staged world premiere of the new musical.
The program serves students from across the state, region and beyond.
The camp is supported entirely through tuition, grants and donations, with limited financial assistance available for qualifying students. Families and students can learn more and begin the application process at: https://www.summerscholarsonstage.msstate.edu.
