STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State has named Professor Julie Jessop as director of the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, effective July 1.
“It is an honor to serve as director of the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering,” Jessop said. “This school has a proud history of preparing outstanding engineers and conducting impactful research. I look forward to working alongside our faculty, staff, students, alumni and industry partners as we continue building on that tradition.”
In addition to serving as director, Jessop also assumes the Earnest W. and Mary Ann Deavenport, Jr. Chair. She succeeds Professor Bill Elmore, who is returning to full-time teaching after serving as director and endowed chair since 2016.
A professor of chemical engineering and longtime member of the Swalm School’s faculty, Jessop will lead the school’s academic research and industry engagement efforts as it continues to expand its impact across the state and beyond.
“Dr. Jessop brings a strong record of leadership, innovation and commitment to student success,” said Dean Dave Ford of MSU’s James Worth Bagley College of Engineering. “Her vision of the future of chemical engineering education and research makes her exceptionally well-prepared to lead the school during this important time of growth and opportunity.”
Jessop joined MSU in 2018 as the Hunter Henry Chair and has been a member of the academic community since 2000. She earned both a bachelor’s and doctoral degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University. Her research focuses on spectroscopic characterization of polymer reactions, hybrid photopolymer resins, cationic ring-opening photopolymerizations and electron-beam polymerization.
An active member of the professional engineering and scientific community, Jessop is an American Chemical Society Fellow, member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and holds memberships in the American Society for Engineering Education and RadTech International North America.
