Expedition State invites MSU community to discover what’s been here all along
A new universitywide series from MSU’s Office of Research Development invites faculty, staff and research professionals to learn more about resources on campus.
Expedition State will take participants across campus to explore the people, facilities, expertise and resources driving research at MSU—while creating new opportunities for collaboration along the way. Built around the theme “Find out what’s been here all along,” the series is designed to make a large research university feel a little smaller by helping the MSU community discover capabilities and potential partners beyond their usual departments and colleges.
The first stop, “UNCHARTED: College of Education,” will be held Sept. 25 at the Jim and Thomas Duff Center. It begins at 2 p.m.
Rather than a traditional seminar, each Expedition State program will provide an inside look at a featured college and its research enterprise. Participants will hear short presentations highlighting research successes and emerging opportunities, learn about specialized equipment, facilities and grant support, and meet faculty and staff who can help move collaborative ideas forward. Programs also will include behind-the-scenes access to research spaces that many participants may never have visited.
The cross-disciplinary format is intended to spark connections that might otherwise be missed. A researcher may discover expertise that strengthens a proposal, learn that a needed resource already exists elsewhere on campus or meet a potential collaborator whose work complements their own.
Each stop will emphasize four elements: discovering research capabilities and grant successes; identifying infrastructure, specialized resources and research support; building cross-college connections; and touring distinctive research facilities.
