STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University Libraries hosted community members of all ages this past week at Mitchell Memorial Library’s Night in the Archives Open House, showcasing the stories, materials and people behind the university’s Archives and Special Collections division.

“Opening our doors for events like this gives people an opportunity to see firsthand the work that goes into preserving these materials and to discover the many ways our collections can connect us to the past,” said David Nolen, associate dean.

The division preserves and organizes unique materials documenting the history of Mississippi State, Mississippi, the South and beyond with more than 700 manuscript collections including individual and family papers, business records, architectural drawings, audio-visual recordings, photographs, maps and artifacts. Additional collections include Mississippiana and rare books, genealogy and local history materials, University Archives, records and material culture.

Located on the third floor of Mitchell Memorial Library, Archives and Special Collections is open to the public by appointment.
