STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Famous Maroon Band, the largest college band in the state, is conducting auditions for fall 2024 prospective members now through April 1.

Auditions are open to high school seniors and community college transfer students currently enrolled in a band program. A virtual option is available for those living outside the region. To schedule an audition, contact the band office at (662) 325-2713. Details are available at https://www.msuband.msstate.edu/join.

“Membership in the Maroon Band gives students opportunities for involvement in campus activities that will enrich their overall campus experience while making lifelong friends,” said Director of Bands Elva Kaye Lance. “The audition process gives us time to visit with the students and their families and help them learn more about our program and what’s available to them. This time of year is always exciting as we welcome new members into our Maroon Band family.”

Brass, woodwind and percussion instrument auditions are available by appointment on weekdays and select Saturdays at MSU. Drumline auditions are held virtually with a May 3 deadline to submit materials. “One of my favorite qualities of the Famous Maroon Band is the sense of family that permeates throughout the organization and beyond,” shared senior band member Christian Thornton, a business administration major from Robertsdale, Alabama. “From our sections, alumni and staff members to our friends in administration and Athletics, there are always friendly faces and words of encouragement to be found. This creates an environment of excellence and camaraderie that makes me proud to support Mississippi State University and call myself a member of the Famous Maroon Band.”
