MSU’s Phi Delta Theta Fraternity chapter, president earn multiple honors from international organization

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Phi Delta Theta Fraternity chapter is celebrating numerous group and individual awards received during the international organization’s recent Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute in Oxford, Ohio.

MSU’s Mississippi Beta Chapter received the Paul C. Beam Trophy for outstanding philanthropic efforts and was honored as a Triple Crown and Gold Star chapter, and also for its recruitment, new member education, risk prevention and community service. It also received the Hayward S. Biggers Excellence in Ritual Award bestowed to chapters demonstrating quality ritual performance.

Mississippi Beta Chapter President Dalton Niederhaus was named the fraternity’s Junior of the Year, an honor awarded to those demonstrating outstanding leadership, academic achievement, character and service, and who exemplify the international fraternity's principles of friendship, sound learning and rectitude.

The rising senior agribusiness and accounting double major from Arlington, Texas, also serves as president of the MSU Interfraternity Council, a group representing more than 2,200 fraternity students across 18 chapters, while also being a voice for the fraternity and sorority community and collaborating with student leaders and university administrators. He previously served as IFC director of programming, university Roadrunner, Freshman Year Navigator, Student Conduct Board member and is involved in New Maroon Camp for first-time students.

Through participation in Iron Phi, Phi Delta Theta's philanthropic initiative benefiting the fight against ALS, Niederhaus helped raise more than $1,250 for the cause while completing the challenge's demanding physical requirements, earning the designation of Iron Phi No. 2,742.
